Renting a motoryacht

You do not need a licence for our yachts! Before you leave you will receive instruction on the use of the yacht, and if necessary we can practise with the yacht. For beginners we recommend to choose a yacht to 9.50 meters.

Possible extra costs:

Diesel/fuel: You start with a full tank. Possible discounts:

Early Bird Discount 2019. Make your booking before Januari 31st 2019 and receive 10% discount on the rent of the motoryacht. 2 or more weeks. For reservations of multiple weeks you will receive 10% discount on the rental prices (only full weeks) Rental of 2 or more boats. We can imagine that you love to tour with several families / groups. You can fall short on beds on one boat. An option is to rent several boats. For this, we offer the following discounts: - 10% discount for 2 or 3 boats - 15% discount for 4 boats or more

Preparing your boating holiday

Navigation rules on the water

When you arrive we expect you to be prepared for your boatin holliday and you are informed of navigation rules. On http://varendoejesamen.nl/en you can read what it takes to cruise the waters in the Netherlands. Here you can find, read and download the documents mentioned below to prepare a careless boating holdiday.

Follow the weatherreports

Keep the weather in mind, even during navigation. Especially if the wind increases, it can be irresponsible to proceed, especially for inexperienced. Timely try entering into a harbor or to find a safe place to moore. Sailing is not recommended (especially for unexperienced) at BFT 5 and at BFT 6: NO SAILING!

In a thunderstorm the boat is like a car. Inside the boat or car it is safe. Of course it is not recommended to go out on deck or to sail when there is a thunderstorm.

ATTENTION! Bad weather is no reason for cancellation. You can always stay the night in our harbor for free. Also take into account bad weather in the planning of your route.

Be sober!!

Just when driving a car, the captain is not allowed to consume alcohol or of narcotics / drugs previous or during sail. This also applies for those who help mooring etc.. Damages caused by those involved being not sober, are for own risk. These damages are not covered by your deposit/own risk of €400/€500.

Booking a boatThere are various ways to book a boat. Online, by email, by telephone or at our office. When booking online you will receive a confirmation by email. This will not yet include the payment terms and bank account. These are on the contract and the invoice that you will receive within a few days after the online booking. (With online booking it is possible that some discounts are not processed directly, such as the discount for booking 2 boats, which will be processed later in the contract and invoice).

Booking a boat by email is also possible. Then send your full address and mobile number. We would also like to hear what your experience is regarding operating a motor yacht and the number of people on board. We will then send you the availability and possibilities of suitable boats. Herein a link will be processed to be able to book directly (online). You can also confirm your choice by email. Then you will also receive the contract and the invoice by email.

If you want to book by phone, this is no problem either. We would then like to receive your data (also) by e-mail in order to prevent typing errors in the e-mail address.

Contract and invoice

After booking you will receive a contract and an invoice by email. If you prefer, you can also receive these by mail. Check all information (adres, phonenumbers, dates etc.). Please adjust or complement, if necessary. If you are unreachable or do not respond to any reminders, we will cancel the booking after a few attempts.

Please return one signed copy within 10 days to the address below by E-mail or mail. You can also send by fax, but this is not our preference ((The signature is often almost invisible or unreadable).

Installments

You can find the paymentconditions in the contract and Invoice. By default, the payments (excluding deposit / own risk) is divided into two payments consisting of 50% of the total rent.

The first installment; must be on our bankaccount within 10 days.The second installment; two weeks before sail.

In consultation it is posible to split the payments in more than two installments.

You can pay with PIN, Creditcard (VISA + Mastercard + American Express) and cash (No cheques!!!)

If you transfer a payment from inside Europe, we prefer to receive payments on our “Rabobank” account. For payments from outside Europe, you can best transfer the amount to our “ING”-account (account numbers are listed on the invoice).

Deposit / Own Risk

Our Motoryachts have a deposit/own risk of € 400,00 till € 500,00 (per incident).

The deposit/own risk for motoryachts untill 9,50 meter is € 400,00. The deposit for larger motoryachts till 15 meter is € 500,00 (Super Vios, Blauwe Hand en Jacabo 1500).

The alleged deposit is your own risk / liability for:

Damaged or missing inventoryDamage on our motoryachts inside and outsideDamage to third parties

For all damages to the alleged deposit, you are liable and the amount will be deducted from your deposit (per incident). Only for damages exceeding the prescribed deposit, the insurance is activated.

You can transfer the deposit to our bankaccount, 14 days before departure (stated on the invoice) or pay on arrival in cash, ATM or credit card through a reservation (the amount is put into reserve; not directly withdrawn from your credit card).

Identification

Before boarding you should be able to identify. It will be sufficient as the captain of the ship can show his or her Identification. It is also a requirement for insurance that the captain of the ship 21 years or older.

Some points of attention:

Schoes on board: Bring suitable Shoes. The deck can become slippery when wet. Shoes with (high) heels will cause damage on deck. Also note that black soles can leave streaks on the deck that are not easy to remove. Clothing: early and late in the boating season it can be very cold and damp on board. Make sure you bring warm clothing. Do not forget your rain gear in case you have to moor in the rain. Suitcases/luggage: Do not bring very large suitcases, these cannot easily be stored on board.Binoculars: Take a pair of binoculars, not all signs and signals are easy to read from a distance.

Full instructions before sail - short lessonBefore sail the instructors will tell you all about the ship you haven rented. In a short practical lesson/course you will be ta ught what to do in practice. You will practice mooring, maneuvering etc. yourself.

We appreciate it very much if you have prepared with the traffic rules on the water before arrival (More on http://varendoejesamen.nl/en).

Especially if you have no experience, it is important that passengers on board are also involved in the explanation. Particularly when mooring and in map reading. Also, in emergency cases, a passenger should be able to take over the steering wheel.

WARNING! If the weather does not permit, it may be that the explanation and lesson will be postponed to a more convenient time.

Like a car, a yacht must also be checked regularly. Before departure you will carry out these checks together with the intructor. During your cruise, you must do these things yourself. Below you can read a number of issues discussed and practiced before departure.

Routes by boatWe are located in Woubrugge, in the middle of the largest waterrich environment of the Netherlands. An ideal starting point to explore our historical city’s, wonderfull lakes and beautifull nature from the water.

Our central location makes it possible to do several routes from Woubrugge ranging from a weekend, midweek or week or longer. Attention! Woubrugge is the base of departure and return.

Upon arrival, after / during Intructions, we discuss a suitable route according to your boating experience. We try to take into account the towns and lakes or you want to see.

Our websites shows several routes. You are not bound by the routes mentioned on our website. You are free to travel where you want within the possibility’s of the motoryacht and available time.

Boating season

The official boating season generally starts on April 15th. and ends on October 15th. Please note that outside that period the operation of bridges and sluisen may be limited. And consider that it can be very cold and damp on board early and late in the boating season. (In ‘Zuid-Holland’ the boatingseason is from April 1st till November 1st).

Almanac

The Almanac and navigation maps are present on board our ships to determine your own route. You can also download the “ANWB watermaps app” for Android and Apple on https://www.anwb.nl/water/varen/producten/digitale-waterkaarten.

Through “Routes”, “Cultural Trips” and “Nature and Adventure” on our website you can get an impression of possible routes and sightseeing.

No sailing on big waters/rivers

Because of reasons of insurance and safety and to prevent serious accidents we do not allow to travel the big waters like the IJsselmeer, Lek, Waal, Merwede, Maas and the IJssel. The Hollandse IJssel is permitted.

The Big rivers have specific navigation rules that one should know. There is also much more professional shipping and current that has to be taken into account. The IJsselmeer is too unpredictable for unexperienced. The weather can change very quickly so it can be unexpectedly dangerous.

Cancellation insurance

Closing a cancellation insurance

If you do not have a cancellationinsurance yourself, you can add this to your reservation. We charge 5% of the basic rentalprice of the ship.

Covered reasons for cancellation:

desease, death or accidents of family; husband/spouse, brothers, sisters, parents, parents in law, (foster-) children.divorce; after reservationunvoluntary unemployment without own blame; not later than 1 month after ending off the booked holiday.unexpectedly not getting a Visa; unless requested too latemalfunction of private vehicle short before departure allocation rentalhouse; within 30 days before start of the trip. buying a house; on deliver and/or transferdate within 60 days before start of the trip

1. If the consumer wishes to cancel the hire agreement, he must inform the proprietor as soon as possible in writing or electronically. In the event of cancellation, the consumer is obliged to pay the proprietor a fixed compensation amounting to:

15% of the agreed hire charges in the event of cancellation at least three months before the commencement of the hire period; 50% of the agreed hire charges in the event of cancellation at least two months before the commencement of the hire period; 75% of the agreed hire charges in the event of cancellation at least one month before the commencement of the hire period; 100% of the agreed hire charges in the event of cancellation within one month of the commencement of the hire period or, cancellation on the date of commencement of the hire period, all aforementioned compensation amounts with a minimum of € 68.

Premature interruption of the boating holidayAt the premature interruption of your boating holiday, where the boat remains in a place other than Woubrugge, we may charge a fee of approximately € 250. This amount is depending on the distance that should be still made back to Woubrugge and whether the renters after you can still board on time.

The interior of the motoryacht

Kitchen on Board

Our motoryachts are equipped with a full inventory: pans, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery etc. A little fridge (60 liter) is also present, please do not expect a freezer compartment. There is also a gas cooking appliance on board that allows you to cook properly. Making coffee aboard is done the old-fashioned way with boiled water, filter holder and coffee filters (No. 4). What’s not on board: Micro-wave, Oven, Coffeemachine and Watercooker.

Toilet on board

All motoryachts are equipped with a toilet. Please do not throw in sanitary towels, tampons etc. in the toilet. At least one roll of toiletpaper (max. 2-layers) will be present and a small wastebasket. The discharge of these toilets are a lot smaller as the drain at home. The toilet may clog quickly.

Shower on board

The shower aboard our yachts is not like you have at home. Usually the showers in the (passers/passanten) ports are used. These are much more comfortable. Not all motor yachts are equipped with a shower. This would go at the expense of the living space. And since almost all ports provide enough facilities is not always necessary to have a shower onboard.

The waste water is being discharged with a pump. It is very important you clean the drainage very well and you pump out the water very well. If the water stays, the stagnent water will start smelling and will cause rotting of the wooden parts.

Heating on board

If you planned your boating holiday very early or late in the season, it can get very cold on board. All our ships have heating on board which runs on gas or diesel. If necessary they can be running while traveling. Warm clothes: On/by the water it is cold sooner than on shore. Bring warm clothes as well because, even in spring and summer, the evening and at night can be very cool.

Electrical appliances on board

Most motoryachts have 12V on which you can charge your mobile phone etc. with a carcharger.

If you choose to use the 220V inverter, please take into account the battery will empty sooner. You can use the inverter for appliances till (about) 300Watt (phonecharger, Laptop, …). Not all motoryachts have a 220V converter (like Palan 800, Palan Sport 950 OK en AK, Palan C 950).

WARNING!! If you are not using the converter, switch it off! The converter uses a lot of power and can drain the battery unnoticed. WARNING! Electrical Coolboxes can not be used on the converter. The plugs and sockets will overheat and melt.

Almost all motoryachts are equipped to use shore power. Only the smallest motoryachts (Palan 800) are equipped with an extention cord and adapter to be able to use shore power if necessary.

Cleaning

On return expect that the basic cleaning has been carried out and that the boat is neatly returned. Cleaning products to do the basic cleaning are on board. Please note! The boat must be empty, clean and abandoned before the time of return stated on your contract.

Cleaning costs

If you choose to only do basic cleaning, you will pay a cleaning fee of € 40 to € 80 on return. The level of the cleaning fee depends on the type of boat. On page 14 you can find the exact amounts per boat.

You can also book the cleaning costs for departure. Then you only have to perform basic cleaning when returning.

Pets

In consulation it is possible to take your pets on board out motorcuisers (except on Palan Sport 1100 OK – Aegir). Costs are €30 a pet. We appreciate it very much, not to let your pets on the benches (linery) etc. For example: the nails of dogs often causes holes and rupture of the lining.

Fleas. Make sure your pet is without flees (a flee collar will be appreciated). Because of possible allergies of following customers an prefention of a flee-outbreak, the ship will be cleaned extra thoroughly.

Bike rental / bringing your own bikes

On some ships you can put a bike on deck. We handle a max. of 3 bikes on deck. Our advise is to rent bikes in the towns you moor. Almost all towns has a bike-rental. If you still want to bring bikes, please use blankets to protect the deck. Keep in mind the bikes will limit the space on deck and can be obstructive while mooring etc.

You can also rent bikes through us for €40,00 a week a bike. Please consult/order the bikes well before sail.

Defect on the wayA defect can always happen. Please report this as soon as possible on +31 (0) 172518113. We will try to solve a simple defect by phone. Tools, fuses, oil etc. are present on the motoryacht to solve simple defects yourself.

If a defect persists, a mechanic will be send to repare the defect. It is important for us you provide as an adress as close as possible to the motoryacht which we can reach by car.

WARNING! Alarm signals (lights- and sound signals) – moore at once. If you continue, you can destroy the engine. Call us as soon as possible on +31 (0) 72 51 8113. This number is forwarded to a mobile phone when nobody is at the office. Please keep in mind, the phone will ring longer before answered.

DamageWhatever situation you end up in, stay calm! It is better if you bump into something softly than that you speed up against it. If necessary, use the boat hook to keep a distance.

Please report damages, as soon as possible on +31 (0) 172518113. We appreciate a clear report of what happened and pictures of the damages for our insurance. It also helps us to make pictures to explain the situation and to collect information of witnesses and those involved. If there is any doubt about who is responsible the deposit will be withheld. As soon as proven you are not to blame, the deposit will be returned to your account.

Preventing damage

Safetyfirst Ensure that your fingers are not between the ropes or between ship and shore. It is still underestimated what a force is exerted on the ropes and the boat (especially when commercial shipping is passing).

Participation passengers Especially if you do not have experience, it is important that participants (at least 1) are also involved in the explanation and actively participate in the instructions, map reading and mooring / departure. After all, the designated captain can not steer and at the same time raise / lower fenders when mooring. Also in an emergency, a crew member should be able to take over the wheel.

Fenders When mooring use at least two fenders and three fastening points. Do not put the fenders before the heating excaust, or it will melt. Firmly secure the fenders with the “Mastworp”. This knot, if necessary, allows you to put the fenders higher and lower without having to release the knot completely. During the trip the fenders are often lost. This can be prevented by using the correct knot and / or placing the fenders on deck/gangway during navigation.

Switching inner and outer control Switching from inside to outside control (or vice versa), the throttles should be neutral in both the inside and outside. If this is not done correctly, it is possible that you will move forward when reversing. Always test whether you can sail backwards before you move on. If you have to slow down or reverse unexpectedly, you will not face any surprises. Damage caused by the wrong switching of inside and outside control is at the expense of your own risk.

Houseboats Mind your stern wave, in particular near houseboats. Timely moderate your speed!! Contactinformation of Yachtcharter P.A. van der Laan are on the rear of the ship. If your speed ist too high and/if your waves are too big, we will soon be called (even if you upholded the max. speed, your waves scan be too high even if your speed is low). If damages are caused, your deposit will be withheld.

Passage height bridges On our website the passage heights of all boats are indicated. Please note that this passage height is with masts and wind screens/windows down and without the flags sticking out.

Do not assume that the indicated passage heights of bridges are exact. The passage heights of the bridges can also vary due to, among other things, the changing water level and the wave action of other boats. Always approach a bridge calmly and try to judge whether the boat will fit underneath.

Return with the boat

Come back to the base in time

The time and date you have to return the motoryacht is mentioned on the contract and invoice. Keep om mind, the motoryacht needs to be clean and empty on the date and time mentioned on the contract and invoice. If you return too late the new customers will probably not be able to board on time. We can charge a fee of about € 75,- (depending of how much later you return the motoryacht).

Bad weather is also no reason to return the boat too late. You need to check the weather forecast yourself and if necessary adjust your route to be back on time. If necessary, you can stay overnight in our harbor previous to disembarking the next day..

Refueling: Mooring at the tankstation / shipyard

You left with a full tank of diesel. In general this is sufficient for your boating holiday. The ship will be refueled on return. Depending on the length of your boating holiday and the chosen route the costs for diesel are approximately € 120 a week.

Prepare you return by packing your luggage before return and to be ready for unloading the motoryacht. As there can return about 20 motoryachts on one day, we will attempt to shorten the time at the shipyard as much as possible.

You can start mooring at the diesel pump at the shipyard for refueling and unload the motoryacht at the same time. (You can often see the red crane from a distance). Most of the time you can park your car as close as possible to the motoryacht. You can unload your luggage and throw away all carbage in the big grey container across the office. P.s. You can moor at the shipyard where there is space available, if necessary we change the mooringposition ourselves.

The boat will be refueled as soon as possible with diesel. During refeuling the motoryacht will be checked by our staff for damages and possible cleaningcosts. We do appreciate it very much if you report damages and defects on the motoryacht.

P.S.: De instructors will bring the motoryacht to our harbor themselves after the ship is returned clean/empty/tidied and checked for damages. It is important you leave the keys on board and not to bring them allong to the office. (In consultation, waiting motoryacht in our harbor will be picked up and sailed to our shipyard).

Due to crowd no room at the tankstation / Shipyard

It happens many motoryachts return on the same time (about 20 motoryachts) and all mooring spots at the shipyard are occupied. You can do the following:

Return of deposit and Reckoning

During refeuling, the boat will be checked by our staff for damages and possible cleaningcosts. We do appreciate it very much if you report damages and defects on the motoryacht and/or inventory. This way we can repair the damage or complete the inventory before the next customers will board. De costs for diesel, possible damage and cleaning costs will be passed by the staff at the tankstation to the staff in the office.

De instructors will bring the motoryacht to our harbor themselves after the ship is returned clean/empty/tidied and checked for damages. All costs will be noted at the office and will be settled with the return of the deposit.

Comments to improveWe would like to hear comments and tips to improve our services.

Lost property Check the cabinets and corners, after you emptied the boat. If you notice you forgot something, let us know as soon as possible. We will store lost property for one month at the most (from the day of return). In general we try to contact the one who is on the rental agreement and discus what to do with the lost properties.

Some useful knots

Mastworp/mastwerp

This knot is used for the fastening of the fenders, for example, to the railing. Because the knot remains under tension by the fender it fixes the line by itself.

This knot is loosening fairly simple, so the fenders can be moved fairly quickly. If the fender only has to be installed slightly higher or lower, it suffices to loosen the knot slightly and adjust the fender at height. By pulling the knot, it is fastened firmly.

Attaching the line to a “Kikker”

Wrap the line around the “kikker” and run one or more crossing turns like in the picture. Finally a pinch-turn, which tightens the knot with a loop.

Opschieten van een lijn Met "opschieten" van een touw wordt het netjes oprollen van een touw bedoeld. Belangrijk is natuurlijk dat een opgeschoten touw een bosje blijft. Ook moet je een touwtje zo weer kunnen gebruiken en dus niet eerst hoeven te prutsen om het bosje touw los te maken. Schiet de tros enkele malen op door hem in de ene hand te nemen en er met de andere hand slagen in te maken. Als er nog maar een paar meter overblijft, worden er met de tamp (het uiteinde) kleine slagen rond de grote gemaakt. Als men zo enkele slagen gemaakt heeft, wordt de punt van de tamp door het bovenste deel van de slagen gestoken en aangetrokken. De kleine slagen worden zo naar boven getrokken, waardoor de tamp, net zoals de slagen, vast komt te zitten.

Lijn kunnen beleggen op een kikker Een kikker beleg je door een rondtorn om de onderkant (de voet) van de kikker te leggen, gevolgd door 1 of meerdere kruisslagen en als laatste een knijpslag. Mastworp (met slipsteek als borg Een mastworp is een knoop waarmee een lijn aan een paal (of aan de mast) bevestigd kan worden. Wanneer de mastworp onder spanning staat, dan zal de mastworp niet schuiven. Door kracht op de lijn te zetten trekt de lijn zichzelf vast. Wanneer er geen constante kracht, maar een steeds variërende kracht op de lijn staat (bijvoorbeeld bij het vastleggen van een boot op een punt waar veel golfslag is), dan kan een mastworp wel eens los raken. In een dergelijk geval kan de mastworp nog gezekerd worden door het losse einde van de lijn nogmaals om de paal te slaan en met een halve steek of slipsteek weer aan het vaste eind van de lijn vast te maken. Platte knoop De platte knoop is één van de meest gebruikte knopen. Met een platte knoop worden twee lijnen aan elkaar vastgemaakt die van een vergelijkbare touwsoort en dikte zijn, en die niet te glad zijn. Een platte knoop kan ook natuurlijk gebruikt worden om twee einden van een zelfde lijn met elkaar te verbinden. Met slippende lussen er in gelegd, wordt het de knoop die je dagelijks in je veter legt. Bij lijnen van ongelijke dikte kan beter een schootsteek of een dubbele schootsteek gebruikt worden. De goed gelegde platte knoop trekt zichzelf vast en zal niet vanzelf los gaan. Legt men de knoop fout (wanneer de twee uiteinden van een lijn niet netjes naast elkaar komen te liggen, maar in een hoek ten opzichte van elkaar liggen) dan is het geen platte knoop maar een oudewijvenknoop. Die knoop slipt wel en zal los gaan. Schootsteek (ook dubbel) De schootsteek is een knoop die gebruikt kan worden voor het aan elkaar verbinden van twee ongelijke lijnen, lijnen die verschillen in dikte, in stijfheid, in treksterkte. De knoop is eenvoudig te leggen en wanneer de knoop niet belast wordt ook altijd weer eenvoudig los te maken De schootsteek halveert ongeveer de maximale belastbaarheid van de lijnen. Wanneer er een groot verschil in dikte is tussen de twee lijnen, is het aan te raden om gebruik te maken van de dubbele schootsteek.
