Note from Fr. Arturo DiazNote from Fr. Arturo DiazNote from Fr. Arturo DiazNote from Fr. Arturo Diaz

Just a month ago I came to the parish of Our Lady of La Salette, in Canton, GA, from Israel, and the

date to return to the Land of Jesus is nearing in the horizon.

As that time approaches, I have only words of gratitude.

My gratitude for your pastor, Fr. Victor Reyes, who took me in with the plan to come to the U.S. to learn and

practice English. He welcomed me in the parish and his home, he set up classes, and lunch and dinner with families from the parish. All these, plus his kindness,

smile and readiness, have made me feel at home. I may say I came as a foreigner and now leave as a parish

member, just missing the southern accent.

My gratitude extends to all the parishioners, with whom I shared family time, prayer, Mass, meals, care for the poor, visits to the sick and elderly. These have been

great experiences which make us see how we live the same ideals and faith. Sharing in the same boat, which is

the Church, which unites us and drives us, overtaking our different languages, cultures and nations.

I would also like to mention my English tutors, engaged in such wonderful, silently eloquent work: James Walz, Bob Smith, Lyn Albee and especially John Gehl, who has been my mentor and has given me so much of his

time, being more than a teacher, like a father, friend, and companion. In this "group" of teachers, I include all pa-rishioners with whom I have spent time, because they

have taught me a little more from the language of Shakespeare.

Shanah Birushalaim bean! With these words the Jewish greet the end of their Passover, expressing the desire to rejoin in Jerusalem. At this time of farewell, that is what I would also like, to meet again. On my part, I will wait for you in Jerusalem. That would be a dream to make come

true.

Meanwhile, please know you will be remembered and prayed for in these holy places of the Holy Land, where we were given divine revelation and where Jesus lived

his life.

I believe that after this month’s experiences, Canton and Jerusalem are now closer.

I leave you my personal information if you ever need me.

My prayers and gratitude. P. Arturo DiazP. Arturo DiazP. Arturo DiazP. Arturo Diaz

Jesus is the Bread of Life 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Week of August 5, 2012

Listen to the Word (John 6:24 — 35) What words or phrases strike you from the familiar story? What image from this story lingers in your mind’s eye?

Look into your life Question for children: Why is Jesus compared to bread? How can his teachings be like food? Question for youth: Jesus is the bread that gives us life. How does believing in Jesus make your life different? Question for adults: How do you partake of the nourishment that Jesus provides? How often?

Activities for the Week Take these activities to further reflect:

• Make unleavened bread, the type Jesus shared with his disciples. Mix the dry ingredients. (Don’t sift the flour.) Cut in the shortening. Mix the water in gradually until the mixture rolls itself into a ball. Divide the dough into thirds, and knead each part ten times. Roll the dough portions out to 3/8” thickness. Place the loaf on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for ten minutes at 375E. Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups white flour, 1/2 cup wheat flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar, 3/4 teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons shortening, 1/2 to 3/4 cup water.

• Have the family sit around a table. Say a brief prayer about bread. Pass around a loaf of bread. Invite each person to break off a piece of bread, telling them not to eat the bread yet. When everyone has taken a piece of bread, invite them to examine the bread: smell it, feel it, and look closely. Finally, ask them to eat the bread. Ask them to share the results of their examination and what memories and thoughts came to mind as they ate the bread. Do the same with grape juice.

• You are Jesus’ hands and feet on this earth. There are many hungry people waiting for help. Have your family help at a food bank or our own parish Soup Ministry. If possible go as a family to deliver food to a shut-in. Discuss what hunger feels like. Discuss what it must feel like to be delivered from that hunger.

• Discuss what your daily spiritual diet is like. Is it junk food, baby food, frozen food? How have you changed to become a spiritual person who eats healthy food and reflects it as a result? You are what you eat.

Stewardship by the Bible

August 5, 2012 Eighteenth Sunday

in Ordinary Time

Today, Jesus, in St. John’s Gospel ties His teaching to the reading from Exodus. He tells the crowd that their ancestors ate manna in the desert provided not by Moses, but from His heavenly Father. Jesus reveals in the Gospel that He is the “Bread of Life”. Those who come to Him will be spiritually filled. St. Paul teaches us that through Christ we will acquire a fresh, spiritual way of thinking. We, as Christian stew-ards, acknowledge Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist, which translated from the Greek, means “thanksgiving”. We stand in awe and gratitude for this tremendous blessing that gives us strength and courage to find and do God’s will.

Are you an aspiring writer? Do you like to find hidden words in puzzles? Are you a perfection-ist who likes to make sure things are well done? Well if you meet one of these require-ments, there is a new opportunity at Our Lady of LaSalette for you. A new quarterly Par-ish Newsletter separate from the current weekly bulletin, is being created that will have interest-ing (we hope) articles on current activities, bi-ographies of parishioners to help us know about that person/s who we see at Mass, and other topics not included in the weekly bulle-tin. Volunteers are needed to write (here's your chance), proof read and edit. Please call Joan Rush @ 770-345-6610 or the parish office to vol-unteer. Thank you.
