2016 VESTRY NOMINEES John Burnett My wife, Nancy, and I moved to San Diego after her long career as a psychotherapist, and mine as a marketing professor. We joined the Episcopal Church in 1968. Our three children were baptized in the Episcopal Church. During the past 45 years I have been very active in the church, including serving on three vestries (once as senior warden), participating in three Cursillos (including one as the rector), singing in the choir, and offering free marketing advice. We joined St. Andrew’s three years ago. During the past year I served a one-year term on the vestry. I was also on the Stewardship Committee, liaison to the pre-school, and chairman of the marketing committee. I am also a lay reader. The last twenty-five years of my professional life have been dedicated to helping nonprofits, including churches, with their marketing issues. Serving on the vestry this past year has made me aware of the issues and opportunities facing St. Andrew’s. I am secure with my ability to offer insights, passion, and a personal dedication to the mission of St. Andrew’s. I hope you will give me the chance to serve. Chas Wurster I was born in Illinois and my father was in the coast guard so we moved about every 4 years. I lived in Louisiana, Virginia, California, and Seattle growing up. Growing up my mother picked our churches as we moved and we usually attended Methodist, and Episcopal churches. When I was in Junior High and High School we attended an Episcopal church in Pleasanton California. I was active in the church’s scouting program and received my Eagle Scout rank there. My background is in software engineering. I am currently the CTO of a local startup company that provides a mobile engagement platform. I have been the technical founder at two other startups, one that raised venture funding, and one that was bootstrapped. The most recent, Tapioca Mobile, provided video adaptation and delivery services to ABC, Univision, Gannett, Hearst Corporation, 4Info and more. Qualcomm purchased Tapioca Mobile in 2010. Prior to that, Chas was a founder and vice president of engineering for Tourmaline Networks, a mobile application development company that sold its email applications through more than 20 mobile operators around the world including Verizon, Vivo and Telefonica. Intellisync (Nokia) purchased Tourmaline Networks in 2005.

I started attending St. Andrew’s in 2003 and served as the vestry clerk from 2005 to 2007. When I started dating April we began attending church together at St. Andrew’s. Father Dan who was a frequent guest Pastor at St. Andrew’s and had recently moved there married us in Hawaii in 2006. Since then we have had 3 children, Charlie age 6, Megan age 4, and Paige age 4. We are active in the family ministry programs. I enjoy my experiences with St. Andrew’s and look forward to the opportunity to continue to contribute to the community here. Jeff Rhoads I grew up in Oregon and came to know God through the ministry of Young Life. I attended Santa Clara University where I had a crash course in Catholicism. I eventually joined the Catholic Church through the rites of baptism, communion and confirmation.

Following college, I began an operations career with Adidas. Starting in Portland, Oregon, I continued at headquarters in Germany before moving to Guangzhou, China, then Hong Kong and then back to Germany. Along the way I met a beautiful girl called Amy and we married in 2007.

In the summer of 2012, I had a chance to join TaylorMade Golf in Carlsbad. Amy and I were sad to leave our home in Germany but also excited about the new opportunities in San Diego County.

The St. Andrew's community intentionally and warmly welcomed us our first week in Carlsbad and we thought that St. Andrew's could offer a spiritual home for both me (coming from a Catholic background) and Amy (coming from a Presbyterian background). In 2013, we welcomed our daughter, Daphne, into the world and were blown away by the generosity of the St. Andrew's community in keeping us fed during the first several weeks of Daphne's life.

Over the last 3 years, I have had an opportunity to engage at St. Andrew's through confirmation mentoring, Third Service discussions, Diocesan Convention, and even a couple of Lean In evenings.

I believe that at St. Andrew's we can continue to grow. That we have more good work to do in this world. That our faith can grow deeper. And that we can support each other in that faith journey.

I care deeply about St. Andrew's. I care deeply about defining our role in the world and how we best fulfill that role. I am passionate about entering more deeply into relationship with God and I love good liturgy!

As a member of the Vestry I will work with you to help define our path into the future. We will work together to understand "what" we do and "how" we do it. And we will also work together to understand "why" we do it. Along the way we will distill the St. Andrew's mission into tangible steps for our community, we will deepen our faith, we will support each other. And maybe just, we will further God's Kingdom here on Earth.

Please join me in building God's Kingdom.

Catherine Campbell

St. Andrew's is full of so much excitement and love for one another. As a vestry member, one of my main goals would be to collaborate with you all about the best ways to share that love and excitement with those around us. Whether it is how to talk about our faith to neighbors or co-workers who just don't "get it," or preaching the Gospel without words, we have so much to offer one another and the community. My focus would be to help equip usto feel more comfortable with how we approach being Christ in the world.

I have been privileged to serve two terms as a vestry member here, as well as four terms of Secretary of Convention and as a member of Diocesan Council. I have also been one of the team leaders of our Sunday morning Adult Forum, have taught the parent confirmation class, and have mentored an Education for Ministry class (EFM) class for ten years. Thank you for the chance to help find new directions in our common life

Joe Whitaker My wife, Pam, and I have been members of St. Andrew’s for a dozen years. We relocated to Carlsbad from the Midwest in 2000. We feel very fortunate to have found St. Andrew's. This parish is welcoming and accepting. We enjoy the involvement of children and younger adults in the life of the church. We are very pleased with our rector and the lay vestry leadership. There are many opportunities for involvement within the parish. And there are also many, many active programs outside the church which care for those in the community. We have met so many good friends here. Over the past two years I was a member of our parish's team on the Diocesan Mission Area IV task force. A life-long Episcopalian, I have served on vestries in St. Louis and Chicago. Vestry "duty" is a great way to help set the course of parish life. Now retired, I was blessed with career work which always kept me interested. That work has included office building and golf course development, large computer system marketing with IBM, a stint as an army officer, and even now tangentially involved in the film business. The first Super Bowl occurred during the first year of our marriage. So 2016 marks both Super Bowl 50 and our 50th anniversary. Makes the number easy to remember. Bill Feeney Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, I was raised Catholic. I received a BFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1985, and in 1995 I received my MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara. We moved to North County San Diego in 1996 and have been here ever since. We started attending St. Andrew’s in 2006, and it has been our spiritual home ever since. During my time in this parish I have volunteered consistently; building sets for the Christmas pageant, painting banners for VBS, and working extensively with the youth group. I am running for the vestry in order to be of service and give back to the parish that has meant so much to me and my family. I am an artist, so I have a colorful resume; I worked in construction for over 20 years, seasonally as a lifeguard for 30 years. I was an adjunct professor of art and art history for 8 years, and I am currently a full-time Lifeguard with the City of Solana Beach and the Director of the Solana Beach Junior Lifeguard Program.

GENERAL QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS None Closing Prayer – Mother Brenda Sol Meeting was adjourned at 12:53 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Glori McStravick, Clerk of the Vestry Next Annual Meeting—January 17, 2016

Report from the Rector, the Reverend Brenda Sol Last year I wrote about St. Andrew’s being “vibrant” and “resilient”; after another year’s experience, I would add “unified” to that list. Although our parish is a place where many perspectives are held, different viewpoints are expressed, and divergent forms of personal piety are practiced, we still worship, serve and study together in harmony.

That idea is present in many aspects of our congregational community, including the curriculum completed by the confirmands last fall. A part of our ongoing conversation, as indicated by the title of the materials, “Confirm, not Conform”, was how we are not required to all think and act exactly alike to be one in Christ.

I know this to be one of the contributing factors to new people feeling at home when they visit St. Andrew’s. While our Average Sunday Attendance (ASA) has not increased with our many new members, neither has it decreased significantly, which, in this time and day, is actually a sign of growth! Across the country, churches of all denominations—including many of the megachurches—are declining markedly. St. Andrew’s however, continues to attract visitors who become active and engaged members.

While the typical way of measuring “success” in churches is by ASA, we have begun to explore other ways of measuring the depth and breadth of our ministry such as how many people are served by our outreach programs and how many people receive pastoral care. These ministry areas are flourishing, so our work now is learning how to also be an “invitational” congregation as we invite friends and colleagues to join us.

Your vestry and I made some difficult decisions this past year, but we made every attempt to do so with grace, integrity and compassion. I believe the continued sense of vitality we are experiencing in so many areas, including a healthy slate of vestry candidates, is an affirmation that you are all committed to this year’s Stewardship slogan of “leaning in and soaring high with God.” We are now even better poised to live into the great commissioning of taking the Good News of Christ to all people. AMEN!

2015 Ministry Reports

Senior Warden’s Report – Jim Stiven 2015 has been another successful and progressive year in the life of the Episcopal Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, and I am gratified to have been a part of it. This was our first full year under the leadership of our Rector, Mother Brenda Sol, and it points to exciting and collegial times ahead. We started the year with our Vestry Retreat at the Mission San Luis Rey, and did two very important things. First, we adopted a new parish Mission Statement, which reads: “To reveal God’s love by nourishing our

Page 11: 2015 Annual Report › ... › annual_report_2015.pdf2015 Annual Report 890 Balour Drive Encinitas CA 92024 760 753-3017 Fax 760 753-3129 Website: Email:contact@standrewsepiscopal.org

10

community through worship, acceptance and service.” We have tried to live into that mission in all that we have done this year. The second thing we did was to elect Debbie Hickson as our Junior Warden. That action, together with the fact of a $40,000 surplus from operations in 2014, led to the completion of several much needed repairs and improvements to our campus property, including roof repairs to the church and parish hall, interior and exterior lighting, parking lot repaving and striping, new drought tolerant landscaping, painting and new refrigeration in the Parish Hall. We also created and adopted a new logo which better identifies who we are. Other ways we lived out our Mission Statement were to continue our commitment to the already successful outreach programs at St. Andrew’s including the Interfaith Homeless Shelter, the Food Pantry, the Friday Lunch, bimonthly lunches for Wounded Warriors, the Refugee Network and the Christmas Gift Boutique. My thanks to the many volunteers who make these programs so successful in aiding those most in need. In addition, our Youth Group’s Mission Trip this summer was to serve those homeless and unfed in Skid Row in Los Angeles. Thanks to the adult leaders and the teens who undertook this challenging mission. In August, we parted ways with our Music Director, Gabriel Arregui, and have hired a new Director of Music Ministries, Chris Bingham, who begins this month. We are excited about the possibilities for a broad, blended and diverse music program.

Other less notable accomplishments this year included the implementation of additional financial controls and the adoption of formal Accounting Policies and Procedures. We also completed and adopted, for the first time, a Marketing Plan, which we hope will guide us as we grow in our worship, acceptance and service. We also adopted an Investment Policy and opened our first Investment Account in a conservative portfolio at Morgan Stanley. Financially, we had a good year, but not without some anxiety along the way. After a good January, pledge collections were slow until the last quarter of the year, but with parishioner’s responsive giving in the last quarter, we made our budget, and will end the year with a modest surplus of $20,195, most of which is being used to replenish monies which had been transferred from Reserves during the year. For reasons not altogether clear, receipt of pledges for 2016, during our Stewardship campaign this fall, was below expectations, and we are needing to tap the shoulders of active parishioners who haven’t pledged, to remind them of the need for their pledges to support our budget for 2106.

Finally, as I complete two years as your Senior Warden, I offer my heartfelt thanks to Mother Brenda, the Vestry, the Staff and to all of you for your support and encouragement and generosity of spirit, all of which made my job easier and most satisfying. I know you will continue to support Betsy Vaughn, and all of the leadership which make St. Andrew’s such a wonderful community of worship, acceptance and service.

Junior Warden – Debbie Hickson This has been a very busy and productive year for all who have been involved in the stewardship of our buildings and grounds. Communications – Cordelia Manis 2015 was a year of communications progress. With the help of the marketing team, we crafted a marketing plan that was approved by the vestry in August. Several of the recommended strategies are being implemented, with plans for more.

Page 14: 2015 Annual Report › ... › annual_report_2015.pdf2015 Annual Report 890 Balour Drive Encinitas CA 92024 760 753-3017 Fax 760 753-3129 Website: Email:contact@standrewsepiscopal.org

We also adopted a new logo and redesigned our communications to present a more unified look to the community. Improving the quality of the visual presentation of communications has been a key goal, and we made significant progress on that front in 2015.

Daughters of the King – Barbara Chung The Mary Elizabeth Chapter of the Daughters of the King continued its ministry of the presentation of baptismal candles to all the newly baptized and presented 10 candles in 2015. Lighting the baptismal candle on the anniversary of the child’s (or adult’s) baptism is a way of remembering the baptismal promises made on that special day.

Although there were no meetings of the chapter in 2015, members continued to pray in support of the clergy and congregation at Saint Andrew’s.

Recognized by the distinctive crosses they wear, the Daughters of the King are open to inquiries by interested women.

Family Ministries - Lisa Scott Jones In mid-July 2015, I was blessed to start as the first Director of Family Ministries at St. Andrew’s. Family Ministries includes all families with children 12 and under.

Throughout the first few months, I met with many St. Andrew’s families who shared their ideas

and hopes for the new St. Andrew’s Family Ministry. These ideas became the foundation for the

program.

In September 2015, St. Andrew’s Families participated in the I Love A Clean San Diego CA Beach

Clean-up at Moonlight Beach. It ended up being a multigenerational event which was wonderful

for all involved.

On Social Media Sunday, I led an adult education class on the ability of social media to build our

church community and connect with our local community.

Throughout the Fall, I attended several preschool parent functions to build relationships with the

Preschool families. In addition, we actively invite the Preschool families to St. Andrew’s Family

Adventures as well as the monthly Family Worship Service and Christmas Pageant.

The first St. Andrew’s Family Adventure took place in mid-November. A treasure hunt led the

children and their parents all over the St. Andrew’s campus. The children discovered the treasure

was a wonderful box filled with family time ideas. The XYZ’s volunteered at the Treasure Hunt.

Their involvement was treasured by the parents. And high schooler, Fiona O’Brien, lead the

children in a wonderful community service project creating hygiene kits for the homeless.

December found St. Andrew’s participating in the Encinitas Holiday Parade. This year the

Preschool families were invited to bling their wagons and join us. We had 40-45 people

participate from St. Andrew’s – including many young families from the Preschool.

Family Ministries ended the year by joining the Youth Group and their families for Sunday

morning activities throughout Advent. I feel very blessed to be a part of the ministry at St.

Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

Fellowship Ministry – Linda Lyons and Leslie Hernandez The Fellowship Ministry provided Sunday coffee hour and hospitality support to parish ministries, activities and special events in 2015 that included:

Food Pantry—Anne Heyligers We served approximately 70 families per week. We have new clients almost every month. We serve many of the same clients and many come for just the time that is needed. We have vegetarians and gluten free clients and try to provide food for them as well We started a program with the Leichtag Foundation, a non profit farm in Encinitas that called us to pick vegetables for the food pantry. We have been a part of the Fresh Rescue Program with Feeding America for a few years. We were contracted to pick up bread, produce and what ever the store donated on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Haggens. Haggens has closed so we are waiting for Gelson's to open and hopefully restart the program. We pick up produce and canned goods every Wednesday from the San Diego Food Bank and have 4 volunteers for this part of our food pantry program. All together we have approximately 50 volunteers from the community as well as St. Andrew's.

Foyer Groups – Kathleen Nokes Based on feedback that people were looking for something new, Foyer Groups shifted into a social hour with appetizers and beverages in the Parish Hall in 2015. Although there was wonderful participation in the first gathering, interest faded quickly. If you are interested in a dinner group, or have other ideas for fellowship outside the typical parish activities, please contact Mother Brenda.

Friday Lunch – Duane Beamer We are well into our 16th year of serving a hot and tasty lunch for the needy of our community. This year, we averaged 50-60 guests each week. We have a team of 16 volunteers from throughout the community. We are not part of the parish budget. We are financed by donations from around the community and the monthly parish breakfast.

Marketing Committee – John Burnett The St. Andrew's Marketing Committee was formed in the early spring of 2015. It consisted of six members and we met seven times. The objective was to create a viable marketing plan for St. Andrew's. This plan was presented to the vestry in August of 2015.

The MESS Group – Donja Stevenson The MESS Group did the following in 2015:

Provided monthly lunches for the wounded warriors and staff at the Wounded Warrior Battalion, Camp Pendleton. We averaged over 40 persons for each meal. (The Wounded Warrior Battalion showed their appreciation by inviting MESS Group volunteers to a dinner (along with other volunteers that provided services) that the Battalion members made and paid for themselves.

When St. Andrew's hosted the winter shelter the Group provided a diner and an overnight host for the "guests".

Coordinated and hosted the Memorial Day Mass (May 24) at the Ranch House Chapel, Camp Pendleton.

Supported the 5th Marine's "trunk or treat" event at Camp Pendleton (Oct 29) by providing and handing out candy for the 200 kids (military dependents) who attended.

At Veterans Day service at St. Andrew's provided name tags for personnel to wear identifying them as "veterans" or "family members of veterans".

Quarterly attended the Camp Pendleton para-chapel council meetings. The meetings are attended by the Camp Pendleton chaplains and members of organizations who volunteer services on board Camp Pendleton.

Music Matters While this has been a year of transition for our music programs, it’s also been a time of parishioners becoming more involved in music. For instance:

A committee/discussion group was formed to give voice to various musical tastes and to hear from outside experts on liturgical music.

In response to the feedback from the Church Assessment Tool (CAT), efforts began to shift to a blended music program as a way to deepen our worship.

The youth group provided music for a number of services, including a couple times at the beach and as part of the Nativity pageant.

The children led the congregation in song on several occasions.

We said good bye to previous Director of Music, Gabriel Arregui, with a festive reception and celebrated his new position at St. Paul’s cathedral.

Several of our music lovers gave freely of their time and talent on the search committee that eventually called our new Director of Music Ministries.

A number of members volunteered to help lead congregational singing while we were without a permanent director.

An ensemble of volunteers formed to provide a solo and an anthem during Advent.

Support was given to invite in guest musicians, such as a Gospel soloist on Pentecost and a Celtic Quartet on Christmas Eve.

Our actions and decisions consistently reflect that music matters at St. Andrew’s. We are confident our program will continue to be revitalized in 2016 under the guidance of Chris Bingham, our new Director of Music Ministries. Whether you decide to sing from the pew or the choir loft, and whether you think you can sing or not, Chris promises to enliven our worship experience with the encouragement that all our voices are pleasing to God!

Pastoral Care - Michael Reichle The principal function of lay pastoral care is to visit those members of our parish community who are in the hospital or ill or recovering at home. This is something virtually all of us do on an informal basis. The pastoral care team also takes Holy Communion to those who cannot attend services but desire the comfort of Communion. During 2015 Mother Brenda and our Eucharistic Visitors provided Holy Communion to 49 parishioners.

St. Andrew’s Preschool - Nancy Thibeault, Director

Completed our 26th year of providing a God-centered, community respected, quality preschool

program with very low staff turnover!

Random, unannounced annual visit from a CA Licensing Program Analyst resulted in a sparkling,

“No deficiencies cited” report! Her visit resulted in a request to use our newly written Emergency

Medical Policies and Procedures as a sample for other programs.

Updated our relevant and informative website.

Our referral by word-of-mouth brought in an almost full capacity.

More children enrolled necessitated hiring new aides, both of whom are parishioners and past

parents of St. Andrew’s Preschool!

The extended day hours offered flexibility for drop off/pick up times, a huge plus for parents.

our curriculum is in line and on target with CA state standards.

New logo with newly designed t-shirts and sweatshirts provided a key marketing tool.

Vestry support resulted in hiring more staff to shadow special needs children which brought in

referrals by happy and grateful parents.

Transparent interaction between preschool bookkeeping and Finance Committee.

Stewardship – David Hankins Stewardship was active during the off-season; several of us participated in stewardship seminars at the Episcopal Leadership Academy in May. In August, we co-hosted a blood drive with the Health and Wellness Committee.

Margaret Griffitts joined the Stewardship Team before the pledge season began, and jumped in and put together three Stewardship parties. The pledge theme was, “Leaning into each other; Soaring high with God”. Tacy Manis created the artwork for the pledge drive. This was a picture of wheat, fish in a stream, and birds flying overhead, which had elements of the St. Andrew’s logo. Pledge cards and cover letters displayed the art and slogan featuring the pledge theme. A poster featuring the art was carried to the altar each week, and a child would pin a paper bird to the poster to represent achievement of the pledge goals.

Four people served as Stewardship witnesses; two pledgers and two beneficiaries of the ministries. Other people’s stories were shared in brief articles that were put in bulletin inserts each week during the pledge season. Jim Stiven gave timely stewardship announcements during the worship services. The pledge season culminated on the Feast of St. Andrew’s with an ingathering ceremony. People walked up to the altar to deliver their pledge envelopes.

We plan on participating in stewardship seminars at the Episcopal Leadership Academy in February.

Ushers- Darren Osten In 2015, the ushers welcomed a new member to our team, Dick Dietz.

Welcome Ministry - Debbie Hickson and Chase Fields “Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality for strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:1

What a fortunate year it has been for St. Andrew’s to have so many angels pass through our doors! • In 2015 our merry band of 15 Greeters welcomed 63 individuals and families from the local area. • A very determined band of 11 Bread Runners delivered 63 delicious loaves of bread. • Yet the most heartening statistic of all is that at least 27 of the visiting households have returned to worship regularly or become active members of St. Andrew’s! We, as a community of faith have been greatly blessed by these new souls and enriched by their presence. We ask your prayers and support in carrying on St. Andrew’s mission of welcoming our neighbors into this faith community where they will experience the love Christ.

Worship Committee – Pat Moran Praying together is foundational to who we are as a community of faith. Through prayer we are drawn together, energized and led out in mission. Prayer is at the heart of who we are as a people of faith. Some of the unique activities we’ve been involved in this year include:

Celebrated Eucharist on Moonlight Beach

Prayed the labyrinth

Walked the stations of the cross

Sponsored a completely Youth-led service

Involved our children in liturgy

Blessed backpacks

Invited the community to join us for our animal blessings

Integrated teaching components into some of our feast days including an instructed Eucharist and an instructed baptism

Collected jackets and sweaters for the Refugee Net as part of our Feast of St. Francis celebration

Provided input on hymn selection while awaiting our new director of music ministries

Offered a Liturgy of Light and Remembrance during Advent

Gave the church a thorough Pre-Christmas dusting

If you haven’t been able to be a part of any of these activities, make it one of your New Year opportunities to join us soon. Fellowship grows in many different ways. Being present is the first step. You’ll be glad that you did.

XYZ’s – Connie McIntire XYZ's senior lunch group enjoyed another year of monthly get-togethers with some fun side trips.

Highlights of our interesting trips included:

Carlsbad Craftsman Museum, always amazing. In May, we went to the Midway Museum, with driving help from MESS representatives, Donja and Richard Stephenson. This was, probably, our best trip of the year. We toured the Leo Carillo Ranch in the fall and ended the year with a Christmas luncheon at Bentley's.

Some of us also participated in the shelter network, providing a dinner and getting to know our guests.

Our "Aging Gracefully" group continues with lively discussion about our aging issues, and how we're doing now, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and never forgetting our sense of humor. We also share good books, articles, poetry and prayers. Anyone can join us the second Tuesday morning of the month at 10 a.m.

Youth Ministry – Brenda Johnston *We started 2015 off by participating and leading the worship and music at our Uncommon Liturgy on Jan 25. *We held several fundraisers for our mission trips like Helping Hands Serving Hearts, Easter Basket Raffle, Greeting Cards, and Christmas Tree, Wreath and Poinsettia Sales. *Mission Trip- End of June, 20 students and 5 adults headed to serve the community of Los Angeles. *We kicked off our year with a beach service on August 30 followed by an afternoon of surfing, eating pizza and hanging out with friends.

Two of our youth attended. *New this year: We partnered with the XYZ’s and sent notes and care packages for recent graduates. Fifteen former St. Andrew’s youth received care packages right before finals. *We ended the year with our parent and youth together at 9am during Advent, and enjoyed a nice family potluck on December 13.

Financial Report – Bob

Moran, Treasurer & Erin

Sacco Pineda, CPA,

Controller Operating Income & Expenses It is a blessing to be able to report another great year-end financial result. While pledge income ran behind throughout the year, and ended 4% under budget (net), the Giving Tuesday event and other non-pledge giving made up for the difference. Total operating income was $572,541. We drew $10,665 from non-operating funds (a special gift received to support the Director of Family Ministries position). Operating Expenses totaled $556,344, or 1% over-budget as well. The actual vs. budget variance in Parish Programs & Supplies expense resulted from lower than expected costs of investigating alternative worship/music; however that variance was off-set by the retention of non-operating funds (which were to be drawn to offset any expenses for that purpose). The

most significant true actual vs. budget variance was in Plant & Property. Building and yard maintenance exceeded budget by approximately $8,000 due to unexpected irrigation repairs, plumbing, and other necessary items. Although the budget variance is unfortunate, we thank the Buildings & Grounds committee for the diligent efforts at addressing facility maintenance in a timely and comprehensive manner. 2016 Budget The Vestry has approved a balanced operating budget for 2016. In addition, we have modified the financial reporting to establish better functional/narrative reporting. That means that personnel costs are allocated to the appropriate expense areas, rather than being accounted for as its own department. All paid personnel fit squarely in one expense department, except Mother Brenda, whose compensation is allocated between Worship & Fellowship, Pastoral Care, and Administration. At left is a summary of the 2016 budget with the 2015 budget provided in the same format, for comparative purposes. If you have any questions, please contact the finance office: [email protected].

FINANCIAL REPORT (continued) Non-Operating Income & Expenses The schedule below details the non-operating activity by purpose. We had direct non-operating outflows of $130,704, of which $28,005 was used for Program/Ministry, $34,717 was used for Outreach, and $67,982 was used for facility maintenance.
