FER-‐012 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS http://tominiclassics.com/collections/79/Ferrari-‐246-‐GTS-‐Dino
195 hp, 2,418 cc DOHC V-‐6 engine, five-‐speed manual transaxle (rear), unequal length A-‐arm front and rear suspension with coil springs and anti-‐roll bars, and front and rear disc brakes. Wheelbase: 92.1 in. At only 7,665 miles, this may very well be the lowest mileage 246 GTS in the world. Built in April, 1974 (one of only 313 GTS’ built this year) boasting Bleu Dino Metallizzato paint work (medium blue metallic) over tan leather seats. This car was delivered in 1974 to the original owner in Joliet Illinois with optional leather seats, A/C, power windows, headlight covers and a dealer-‐installed Blaupunkt stereo. He kept the car for approximately twelve years and sold it in 1986 with just 1,551 miles. The second owner enjoyed this beautiful Ferrari for a year and then sold it to a broker in New York in March of 1987 with 5,123 miles. The car was repainted the original colour in 1987 because of faded metallic paint and was sold in 1988 to a collector in West Palm Beach with 5,324 miles (one of the founders of the Cavallino Classic in the area). In 1993, he sold the Dino with 6,324 miles to a collector who had won several awards for his restoration of early 356 Porsches. In order to be able to compete with a Ferrari in national events, he completely disassembled the car, had it painted in Giallo Modena and replaced the rubber, the chrome, the dashboard and the carpet. He also had the leather seats restored, using the original leather. In 1995, the car was entered into the Cavallino Classic in West Palm Beach, where it won Best in Class and was awarded La Coppa per Sei Cilindri "The Cup for 6 Cylinders". This Dino was also entered into the Ferrari National Concours, where it took second by two points and only because "the engine bay light didn't come on when the judges opened the hood." Shortly after the Ferrari Nationals, the then owner was approached by a broker who wanted the car for a customer, for a private collection. He sold it to the broker and it stayed off the market and out of sight for a long time afterwards. The car sat in a California collection until 2001, when it was bought by the Blackhawk Collection with 6,420 miles and put straight into storage. The car was stored for six years, until it was bought by an individual through a broker/dealer whom he'd commissioned to find the best Dino available. He took delivery in 2007 with 6,563 miles on what appeared to be the original tires.
The lack of wear to the interior and exterior, which were redone in the early 90's, attests to that mileage. The car now sits in the Tomini Classics collection. A few years ago, one of the previous owners replaced the original seats with period-‐correct Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona seats. The original leather hides have been kept and boxed. They are completely intact, including the headrest leather, and will accompany the sale of the car. This rare Dino 246 GTS is in exceptional condition. It was restored approximately 20 years ago, so it's not quite ready for a Concours, but for a 40 year old car, it is exceptional. It is a genuine head-‐turner and has been mechanically well-‐maintained, so it starts right up and runs very strong. The tires were replaced 1,000 miles ago, and the wheels are in perfect condition with no curb rash or scratches.
