Investment needs
-The investment needs
of EU ports are around
€5 billion per year.
-Two additional conclusions:
1. Investments in basic port
infrastructure continue to be the
main investment category.
1. Broad variety of types of
port infrastructure, including for
instance energy-infrastructure.

CEFII proposal & Financing Needs
• Ports are facing challenges of energy transition and digitalisation that have a major impact on the requirements for infrastructure investments
• More balance needed between the budgets for research and investigation programs (Horizon Europe) like implementation budgets (CEF II). (100:42)
− Important implementation projects are delayed because of a lack of funding.
• 40% of the budget is earmarked for projects related to the EU's transition to interconnected, sustainable, inclusive and secure mobility
− Essential for achieving the specific next (corridor connectivity 2.0) phase infrastructure for the 2030 core network objectives
• Investing in port infrastructure is key for enhancing European competitiveness
− Creating societal value, beyond the port area.
− Cross border impact (added value along network)
